The job of SpEd Para II is performed to provide support to the instructional program under the direction of an assigned classroom teacher. Responsibilities include supervising, caring for, and instructing special needs students in the regular classroom or a self‑contained classroom; assisting in implementing instructional plans; monitoring student behavior during instructional and non‑instructional time; and providing information to appropriate school personnel.

• Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives and IEP goals.
• Administer immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional for the purpose of meeting immediate health care needs.
• Assist students with self‑care activities (e.g., toileting, washing, changing diapers, eating, dressing, grooming) for the purpose of maintaining personal hygiene.
• Attend job‑specific trainings (e.g., first aid, behavior management) for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
• Collect data to support teachers in the classroom and prepare reports and/or processing forms.
• Communicate with supervising instructional staff and professional support personnel for the purpose of evaluating progress and implementing IEP objectives.
• Implement behavioral plans designed by the IEP team under the supervision of the assigned teacher for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions to reinforce learning concepts and acquire appropriate social and school skills.
• Maintain instructional materials and/or manual and electronic files/records for the purpose of ensuring availability of items, providing written reference, and meeting mandated requirements.
• Monitor students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
• Provide instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities under the supervision of the assigned teacher to reinforce instructional objectives, implement IEP plans, and ensure student success in school.
• Attend meetings and in‑service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

• Minimum 16 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Job‑related experience is desired.
