Admissions Counselor

As an Admissions Counselor, you'll connect with students, families, schools, and community partners, helping guide prospective students through the admissions process and supporting their path to enrollment. This position offers the chance to make a direct impact on students' educational journeys while representing a university committed to student success, engagement, and access to opportunity.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys relationship-building, outreach, public speaking, and working in a fast-paced, student-centered environment. You'll collaborate with admissions and enrollment professionals, participate in recruitment initiatives, and engage with a variety of student populations across Utah and beyond. Through meaningful interactions and strategic outreach, you'll help prospective students see themselves at UVU while gaining valuable experience in higher-education recruitment, student services, and community engagement.

Summary

Of Responsibilities
  • Coordinates on-campus events with a strong focus on serving at-risk populations, including minority populations, immigrants, first-generation students, and economically disadvantaged students.
  • Provides instruction on the application process through one-on-one counseling, email responses, and phone calls. Assists students in the completion of their applications by recording high school transcripts, providing information on campus resources, financial assistance, and academic programs.
  • Clearly, accurately, and enthusiastically articulates information about the University and its programs, admissions criteria, financial aid, and student life. Visits middle schools, high schools, and colleges to speak to underrepresented groups and/or individual students. This includes attending the mandatory number of Utah College Application Week and Utah Higher Education Day events as assigned by their supervisor.
  • Assists with maintaining recruiting records of prospective and current students and/or potential degree candidates.
  • Prepares reports and proposals and responds to inquiries from students and state/community agencies.
  • Participates in the development of operating goals and objectives and recommends, implements, and administers methods and procedures to enhance operations as appropriate.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with an Associate's Degree in a related field plus one year of experience directly related to the Summary of Duties; OR a combination of education and experience totaling three years. For Example:

  • Associate's degree in a related field and one year of directly related experience (2 years of education + 1 year of experience = 3 years total).
  • OR three years of directly related experience.
  • OR one year of college coursework in a related field and two years of directly related experience.
  • OR any other combination of related education and experience totaling three years.
Preferred Qualifications:

Bilingual in Spanish and English.

Licenses/Certifications:

A valid driver's license.

  • Knowledge of student recruitment, admission, and retention issues for students of various backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of recruitment and enrollment strategies that effectively engage underrepresented, first-generation, and multilingual student populations.
