Position Announcement
The Department of Languages and Cultures is seeking a highly motivated self-starter to work as a German tutor in the Language Hub. • Tutor students enrolled in German courses, particularly lower-division courses, in person and virtually.
• Complete tutoring certification program, model problem-solving skills and study strategies, assist in curriculum design for Language Hub, and improve personal language skills.
• Participate in the production and dissemination of promotional materials and events.
• Assist in hosting events in the Language Hub.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by the manager.
• Current UVU student registered for a minimum of 6.0 credits.
• Native or near-native proficiency in language comprehension, production, and writing.
• Knowledge and ability to explain, in detail, aspects of German(grammar, vocabulary, syntax, pronunciation, colloquial usage, etc.) as covered in German
3050, or equivalent.
• Completion of GER 3050, or equivalent, with a grade of at least an A–.
• Available to work between 12–15 hours per week, during normal business hours (9:00 am to 5:00 pm) and possibly some evening hours to be determined.
Preferred Qualifications
• Engagement with German-speaking community outside academic setting.
• Majoring or minoring in German.
• Experience in teaching or tutoring.
• Experience in utilizing tutoring services.
• Experience in collating and analyzing data in Microsoft Excel.
• Ethical, responsible, motivated self-starter who needs little supervision after training.
• Ability to adhere to a set schedule, generally 15 to 20 hours per week.
• Evidence of advanced customer service and interpersonal skills.
• General computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, etc.).
