German Tutor Position
The Department of Languages and Cultures is seeking a highly motivated self-starter to work as a German tutor in the Language Hub. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Make sure to include all required documents listed below, as incomplete applications will not be considered.
Summary of Responsibilities- Tutor students enrolled in German courses, particularly lower-division courses, in person and virtually.
- Complete a tutoring certification program, model problem-solving skills and study strategies, assist in curriculum design for the Language Hub, and improve personal language skills.
- Participate in the production and dissemination of promotional materials and events.
- Assist in hosting events in the Language Hub.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the manager.
- Must be a current UVU student registered for a minimum of 6.0 credits
- Native or near-native proficiency in language comprehension and production.
- Knowledge and ability to explain, in detail, aspects of German (grammar, vocabulary, syntax, pronunciation, colloquial usage, etc.) as covered in German 3050, or equivalent.
- Completion of GER 3050, or equivalent, with a grade of at least an A–.
- Available to work between 12–15 hours per week, during normal business hours (9:00 am to 5:00 pm) and possibly some evening hours to be determined.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Engagement with the German-speaking community outside the academic setting.
- Majoring or minoring in German.
- Experience in teaching or tutoring.
- Experience in utilizing tutoring services.
- Experience in collating and analyzing data in Microsoft Excel.
- Ethical, responsible, motivated self-starter who needs little supervision after training.
- Evidence of advanced customer service and interpersonal skills.
- General computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, etc.).
