Youth Development, Math Teacher, After School, Tutoring
We’re looking for a dependable, encouraging college student to work with our three boys after school in our home in Orem. We’re hoping to find someone who enjoys working with kids and teens and can be a combination of tutor, academic coach, and positive mentor.
Our boys are in 10th, 7th, and elementary school. Their needs are a little different, but the role would generally include helping with homework and math, reviewing assignments, preparing for tests, staying organized, and developing better study habits and independence.
Math is an important part of the position, particularly for our 10th and 7th graders, so we’re looking for someone who is comfortable helping with math through the high-school level. You definitely don’t need to be an expert in every subject. More important is being able to explain things clearly, break larger assignments into manageable pieces, and help a student figure out what to do when they feel stuck.
Our youngest is bright and capable but can have a harder time staying focused and organized, so patience, encouragement, and an ability to keep kids engaged are especially important.
The schedule is ideally Monday–Thursday from approximately 3:30–5:30 PM
, although we have some flexibility for the right person. Monday is particularly helpful for getting everyone organized and prepared for the week. We anticipate approximately 6–8 hours per week throughout the school year.
Pay is $15–17/hour
, depending on experience.
This would be a great fit for a BYU or UVU student studying education, math, science, psychology, communication disorders, or a related field, but your major is much less important to us than being responsible, patient, academically capable, and great with kids.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Is comfortable with middle- and high-school math
- Is patient, positive, and encouraging
- Can provide accountability without simply doing the work for the student
- Is organized and dependable
- Has reliable transportation to our home in Orem
- Can commit consistently through the school year
This is an in-person position only
.
We’re a busy family and would love to find someone who can become a consistent part of our boys’ weekly routine and help them become more confident and independent students.
