This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in students' lives as they pursue their academic, personal, and professional goals. As a Student Success Partner, you will work closely with students with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities, providing individualized support, encouragement, and guidance that fosters self-advocacy, independence, and confidence. Through mentoring, relationship-building, and student-centered support, you will help students navigate the university experience and achieve success both inside and outside the classroom.

  • Meet with assigned students for their allotted weekly hours to review Canvas assignments, plan homework completion goals, and coordinate with campus resources as needed; facilitate the learning and strengthening of executive functioning skills by identifying and implementing effective strategies; promote the empowerment of student self-advocacy and problem-solving skills; and support the attainment of the individualized goals created each semester.
  • Lead the regularly scheduled group study sessions by teaching the lesson on topics such as learning strategies, resources, helpful tools and tips, monitoring the group during the remainder of the time dedicated to their coursework, and offering support to students when needed.
  • Complete and maintain all required documentation for student meetings and attend the weekly team meeting to collaborate and problem-solve with other Student Success Partners.

At least six months of experience serving as a peer mentor or in a comparable support position, or currently pursuing a degree in Autism Studies, Special Education, Psychology, Social Work, Family Studies, or a related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree or above in Autism Studies, Special Education, Psychology, Social Work, Family Studies, or a related field.
  • Experience working with autistic adults.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of effective strategies and tools to be successful in Higher Education.
  • Knowledge of autism and/or other developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledge of how to identify the strengths of others and utilize those in facilitating the empowerment of students.
Skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Exemplify patience, understanding, and responsiveness in interactions.
  • Take initiative through critical thinking and a solution-focused approach.
Abilities
  • Ability to present to small and large groups.
  • Ability to represent the MNCA in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instruction will little supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with people from various backgrounds.
