Position Announcement
Ushers create a safe and welcoming environment at the UCCU Center and other venues at Utah Valley University. Ushers are expected to offer the highest level of customer service possible to guests, donors, visiting artists, artist management, patrons, and any other member of the public or administration they may encounter. This includes welcoming guests at the doors, taking tickets, and providing guests with information, including program details, restroom locations, food sales locations, and emergency plans and exits.

- Provide excellent customer service including greeting patrons, scanning tickets, distributing programs and other materials, tending to guests' comfort, and assisting them with any questions or problems.
- Monitor the activity and behaviors of all guests to ensure the safety. Enforce event rules and relevant health and safety regulations. Ensure that the lobby and public areas are neat and organized. Assist patrons in following all emergency protocols and guiding audience members to the exits in an orderly manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must be a current UVU student and have been awarded Federal Work-Study for through UVU Financial Aid. Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with Two Way Radios.
- Experience with events and crowd management is preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of, sensitivity to, and appreciation for the diverse ethnic, socioeconomic, disability, and gender diversity of guests and staff attending or working with the UCCU Center and Utah Valley University.
- Knowledge of suspicious activity and behaviors.
- Knowledge of where to find help with ticketing issues, an unruly guest, a medical emergency, etc.
- Skills in effectively dealing with a wide variety of personalities and situations requiring diplomacy, tact, friendliness, poise, and firmness.
- Fantastic communication and social skills, including the ability to listen and de-escalate tense situations.
- Ability to read small print.
- Ability to climb steps repeatedly.
- Ability to descend/ascend ramps and inclines/declines.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, busy environment with environmental conditions such as noise, dark/dim/absence of lighting, etc.
- Ability to bend, stretch, reach, and kneel without restriction.
- Ability to stay calm in an emergency or confrontational situation.
- Ability to present a professional, polished appearance.
