Public Benefit Specialist

Position Summary

This position is located On‑Site at Summit Hospital in Show Low, AZ. The role involves interviewing uninsured/under‑insured patients to determine eligibility for Medicaid or financial assistance programs and managing the application process to ensure accurate and timely billing or adjustment postings.

• Interview patients to assess Medicaid or financial assistance eligibility.
• Initiate and coordinate application processes for accurate submissions.
• Communicate with patients to obtain required documentation.
• Follow up on submitted applications through to determination, updating insurance information as needed.
• Document all actions and communications in the patient accounting system.
• Maintain knowledge of state and federal program requirements and share information with teammates.
• Build and maintain working relationships with county, state, and federal Medicaid caseworkers and collaborate with revenue cycle departments.
• Perform other assigned duties as required.

• 1‑2 years of experience in the healthcare industry interacting with patients on financial issues.
• Understanding of revenue cycle processes (admission, billing, payments, denials).
• Comprehensive knowledge of the insurance authorization and benefits verification process.
• Knowledge of health insurance requirements and medical terminology/CPT codes.
• Experience in patient access, managed care/insurance, or call‑center environments is preferred.
• Strong communication skills and openness to innovation, including AI solutions to improve processes.

• High School Diploma or GED (post‑secondary education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree).
• CRCR certification required within 9 months of hire.

• Hourly rate: $18.65 – $20.50 (based on experience).
