The Activities Director is responsible for directing the development, implementation, supervision and ongoing evaluation of the activities program designed to meet the social, psychosocial and therapeutic needs of residents. This includes scheduling activities, coordinating recreational, educational, cultural and arts and crafts programs, monitoring responses, and revising programs as necessary. The Director ensures activities are offered daily, including cognitive, recreational and ADL activities, and that resident safety is maintained throughout.
The role also oversees resident councils, volunteer programs, and the coordination of transportation to social activities.
- Current/Active Food Handlers Permit
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last 5 years, including one full-time year in a therapeutic activities program; or
- Qualified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant; or
- Completion of a state‑approved training course
- Maintain resident dignity, rights and safety; comply with all facility policies and regulations.
- Ensure confidentiality of protected health information.
- Report noncompliance, incidents, and workplace concerns to appropriate personnel.
- Participate in life safety drills and emergency procedures.
- Prepare and post monthly activity calendars in large print.
- Assess resident needs, develop activity goals for care plans, document outcomes and progress notes.
- Manage equipment and supplies, contribute to budget development.
- Attend care plan meetings, QAPI Committee, Behavior Management Committee, Department Head Meetings, and mandatory in‑services.
- Maintain required training and licensure, and complete continuing education.
Physical Requirements
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and sound judgment.
- Ability to remain composed in stressful situations.
- Resourcefulness, leadership, and positive attitude.
- Organizational and efficient; ability to coordinate meetings and set goals.
- Basic computer skills.
- CPR licensed; trained in first aid.
- English proficiency.
- Teamwork orientation and independent decision making.
- Ability to handle residents, family, and staff with tact and patience.
- Physical ability to move intermittently, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift overhead and perform other common movements.
- Will be exposed to infectious waste and typical workplace hazards; must meet health requirements.
