Pharmacy Technician - Onsite (Based in or Near Salt Lake, UT)

Prime Therapeutics (Prime) is a purpose‑driven pharmacy benefit management organization. This role evaluates and authorizes prior authorization pharmacy requests received by telephone and/or facsimile, using client clinical criteria, and supports both front‑end and back‑end operations, including order fulfillment, packaging, and shipping.

• Evaluate and authorize prior authorization pharmacy requests from prescribers.
• Determine appropriateness of medications using clinical criteria.
• Communicate decisions to physicians, physician office staff, medical management staff, and pharmacists.
• Support front‑end and back‑end operations: order fulfillment, packaging, shipping, and accurate processing of products.
• Research, resolve, and document prior authorization outcomes and inquiries in the pharmacy system.
• Escalate requests to a pharmacist when extensive clinical review or denial is required.
• Provide verbal or written results to clients, prescribers, providers, and management.
• When assigned to the fax queue, review coverage determinations, communicate decisions within SLA guidelines, multi‑task across queues, and adapt to changing business needs.
• Perform other duties as required.

• High school diploma or equivalent GED.
• Active pharmacy technician licensure or registration in accordance with state requirements, or both state licensure/registration and an active national certification (e.g., PTCB or ExCPT) if the state does not require an exam.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States without the need for a work visa or residency sponsorship.
• Position is onsite; remote work is not available.
• Minimum of 6 months dispensing or retail experience, or equivalent internal training.
• Proficiency with pharmacy computerized systems, software applications, and the MS Office Product Suite.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to follow clinical criteria and instructions to approve prior authorization requests.
• Knowledge of specialty injectable prescription drugs, disease states, health plan formulary management techniques, medical terminology, and current diagnostic and reimbursement coding (J/Q codes, ICD‑9, CMS 1500, etc.).

• At least 1 year of experience in a pharmacy or specialty pharmacy setting.
• Experience in specialty pharmacy, reimbursement, or health plan/health care settings.
• Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills.

Potential pay ranges from $17.85 to $25.48 per hour based on experience and skills.
