Job Summary
The South Main Clinic at the University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Medical Assistant. This role supports licensed staff with clinical and clerical tasks, facilitating efficient patient care in a pediatric setting. The Medical Assistant will work alongside world‑class professionals, supporting patient examinations, registrations, lab tests, and patient education.
This is a full‑time position (40 hours per week) requiring regular and punctual attendance. The position is located at the Department of Pediatrics South Main Clinic, 3690 South Main Street, Salt Lake City, Utah.
Responsibilities- Prepare patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures, recording vital signs and medical history.
- Complete patient admission/registration, reviewing accounts and compliance documents.
- Report observed patient concerns and changes in condition to licensed staff.
- Schedule patient appointments and send reminders.
- Perform CLIA‑waived lab tests and report results.
- Perform specialty skills such as suture removal, straight catheterization, and injections.
- May perform patient phlebotomy per clinic procedures.
- Act as a chaperone during examinations and assist with procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness of examination rooms and report supplies/equipment issues.
- Answer telephones, forward messages, and assist with scheduling.
- Complete mandatory in‑services: EMR, HIPAA, infection control, safety, CPR, equipment usage.
- Support diagnostic procedures such as EKG and ultrasound under supervision.
- Assist with inpatient and family education, providing health information.
- Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system (obtained within 30 days of hire).
- Verification of one of the following:
- State‑approved EMT course.
- One year of Medical Assistant experience in an ambulatory care clinic or healthcare setting.
- Completion of a Medical Assisting education program.
- University Hospital Medical Assistant certification program.
- Fluency in Spanish, both oral and written.
- Two years of related work experience in community‑based pediatrics or primary care.
- Strong computer skills and excellent multitasking and time‑management abilities.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assisting program or equivalent (EMT).
