Works fully onsite, not a hybrid position

Reports to:

Chief Executive Officer

Supervises: HR Generalists (2), HRIS Analyst, and HR Assistant

Comp: $90K - $115K

Summary:

Lead Challenger School's Human Resources to ensure personnel practices and policies meet best practices and comply with federal, state, and local law; and partner with managers to effectively manage all personnel accordingly.

Responsibilities
  • Research and implement effective processes for candidate evaluation, interviewing, testing, and selection.
  • Participate in the evaluation of candidates for key positions, and document recommendations.
  • Establish and maintain procedures for background checks and subsequent employee orientation.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with managers and employees of all departments, including providing timely responses.
  • Impart a culture of self-ownership and personal responsibility by minimizing the impact of entitlement, unemployment expenses and maximizing employee attendance.
  • Ensure that all new-hire documentation is completed correctly to efficiently and accurately establish an individual as an employee of Challenger. Verify that all-appropriate agreements and documentation are received for every school employee. Work with Payroll Manager to ensure that employees are paid accurately.
  • Learn and operate Challenger's database system in order to process information efficiently and independently.
  • Work with insurers to obtain bids for the best possible enrollment to the benefit of Challenger and its employees.
  • Prepare for open enrollment and accurately enter all changes and new enrollments, inform Payroll of such changes and enrollments together with new rates annually. Ensure compliant administration of all benefit plans—medical, dental, vision, FSA, life insurance, and tuition reimbursement.
  • Understand applicable leave, ADA, and worker's compensation laws and procedures in order to guide administration.
  • Manage system for performance evaluation and documentation of performance issues.
  • Stay current on federal and state employment law, labor regulations, and codes as applicable, including, but not exclusively, to administer programs to efficiently monitor and resolve unemployment claims, driving record checks, drug testing, driver's license screening, EEOC compliance and timeliness of evaluations and terminations consistent with federal and state guidelines.
  • Anticipate and respond to the needs and direction of the CEO.
What It Takes To Succeed

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in human resources, organizational behavior, or related degree; or equivalent knowledge and experience

5+ years of experience in human resources, preferably with 2+ years of experience managing HR department

Knowledge & Skills

Superior organizational skills and diplomatic skills for dealing with difficult issues and people

Knowledge of laws and ability to cooperate and manage legal dealings with attorneys and courts

Superior math and English speaking, writing, and presenting skills as well as excellent skills in Microsoft Word and Excel

Able to act discreetly and decisively in difficult personnel issues, assisting managers to successfully avoid costly personnel and clientele litigation

Train, assist, and coach managers to deal with legal and other delicate matters with personnel and clientele
