Associate Underwriter E&S Commercial Auto

Overview

DUAL North America is seeking an Associate Underwriter for the Commercial Auto Division. The role reports to an Underwriter and involves support throughout the underwriting process, including account underwriting, quoting, binding, and customer service.

Location:

United States – hybrid/remote. Salary: $60,000 to $80,000. Travel: 0–10%.

• Process submissions, providing account triage for Underwriters.
• Provide backup support for Underwriters when traveling in the market.
• Gather and compile information required to quote and/or bind an account, communicating with producers.
• Generate, edit, and send correspondence on behalf of Underwriters (declination letters, quote follow‑ups, subjectivity reminders).
• Demonstrate a basic understanding of underwriting principles and risk characteristics.
• Learn market dynamics, competitive landscape, and product differences through meetings and research.
• Provide customer service and underwriting support to achieve premium goals.
• Build relationships with producers under supervision of senior underwriters.
• Fill in for team members to ensure business continuity during peak periods or absences.
• Assist Underwriters as requested and complete other related clerical and administrative duties.
• Assist with inspections, review and analysis to identify appropriate issue; process post‑inspection changes.

• Working toward underwriting authority; does not have authority yet.
• Quote issuance authorized by Underwriter(s) with appropriate authority.
• Binder issuance authorized by Underwriter(s) with appropriate authority.
• Policy issuance review performed.

• Bachelor’s degree in risk management, finance, business, or related field preferred.
• 0–2 years experience as an associate underwriter, underwriter, or relevant insurance experience.
• Foundational knowledge of insurance principles.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Ability to follow policies and procedures.
• Complete assigned tasks correctly, on time, with quick learning.
• Self‑motivated with attention to detail and ability to work independently for extended periods.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and general business understanding.
• Travel up to 10% with an Underwriter.
• Ability to remain stationary 50% of the time; occasional movement in office.
