Store Director, Home Built

Description

The Store Director serves as the senior operational leader for the Utah Valley market, responsible for the performance, profitability, culture, and growth of multiple Home Built retail locations while maintaining executive oversight of a designated home store. This role acts as the business owner for the market, leading General Managers, driving financial results, developing future leaders, and ensuring consistent, high-quality customer experience across all locations.

The Store Director partners closely with company leadership to execute growth strategies, strengthen organizational capability, and ensure operational excellence.

• Market & Operational Leadership
  • Lead multiple Home Built store locations in the Utah Valley market, including direct supervision and development of General Managers
• • Oversee a designated home store, ensuring strong operational execution and team performance
• • Drive sales growth, profitability, customer satisfaction, and operational consistency across all locations
• • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and brand standards
• • Lead operational readiness and staffing for new store openings and market expansion
• Financial & Business Ownership
  • Own market and store financial performance, including revenue, profitability, expenses, and margins
• • Decide on resource allocation, staffing investments, and operational priorities
• People Leadership
  • Oversee hiring, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, and workforce planning across the market
• • Serve as key decision-maker on leadership hiring and employment decisions in partnership with HR
• • Coach and develop General Managers through feedback, performance reviews, and development planning
• • Build a leadership pipeline through succession planning and internal talent development
• • Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, teamwork, and continuous improvement
• Customer, Community & Safety Leadership
  • Deliver an exceptional, consistent customer experience across all locations
• • Represent Home Built in the community by building relationships with customers and local organizations
• • Promote and enforce a culture of safety, compliance, and risk management across the market

• Operational audit standards and multi-unit compliance requirements
• Financial acumen, including budgeting, margin management, and expense control
• Employee relations and organizational change practices
• Customer experience measurement, including satisfaction and NPS
• Safety standards, risk management, and incident reduction
• Home improvement, homebuilding, or building materials operations (preferred)
• Analytical and data-driven decision making
• Communication and stakeholder management across all levels
• Conflict resolution and problem solving
• Change management and leading organizational transitions
• Translate strategy into operational execution with a business ownership mindset

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Management, Finance, HR, or related field preferred; equivalent leadership experience considered
• 7+ years of progressive leadership in retail, building materials, trades, or construction-related industries
• 5+ years of multi-unit leadership with responsibility for business performance and direct oversight of managers
• Proven experience managing a business unit, district, or market

• Stand and walk across store locations for extended periods during site visits
• Travel regularly between store locations within the market
• Lift and carry up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally
• Bend, reach, and move product as needed
• Work in store, warehouse, and outdoor conditions as needed
• Use a computer and phone for administrative and reporting work
