Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: X-ray Manufacturing Engineer II (3rd Shift)

Position Purpose/

Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineer II will lead failure analysis and corrective actions for X-ray tube and high-voltage power supply issues arising during final assembly and final test. This role is responsible for diagnosing both product and equipment-related failures, ensuring rapid resolution to support production continuity on the 3rd shift (graveyard shift, 10:00 pm to 6:00 am).

In addition to product-focused root cause analysis, this role will own the troubleshooting, maintenance, and performance optimization of X-ray tube conditioning and final test equipment, including high-voltage, vacuum, and data acquisition systems. This position requires a high degree of autonomy as the primary engineering support during the 3rd shift.

Essential Duties:
  • Lead the failure analysis process for X-ray tube and power supply failures in the final assembly and final test production area.
  • Identify and confirm root causes using structured methodologies (Fault Tree Analysis, DOE, 8D, etc.).
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair X-ray tube processing, final test, and other equipment, including:
    • High-voltage power supplies and control systems.
    • Vacuum systems (pumps, gauges, seals, leak detection).
    • Data acquisition and test software interfaces.
  • Diagnose whether failures are product-related or equipment-induced, and take appropriate corrective actions.
  • Perform and coordinate corrective and preventive maintenance (PM) on equipment to ensure effective utilization and stability.
  • Support the 3rd shift production supervisor in resolving real-time production, equipment, and process issues.
  • Collaborate with maintenance technicians to define repair plans, improve PM procedures, and drive long-term equipment reliability improvements.
  • Drive equipment-related root cause investigations and implement permanent corrective actions to reduce repeat failures and downtime.
  • Use data analysis to track and trend product failures, equipment performance, and sources of scrap to identify systemic issues.
  • Support scrap and yield improvement initiatives through both process and equipment optimization.
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to implement design-for-reliability and CAPA actions.
  • Maintain and calibrate test equipment; ensure compliance with safety standards, especially for high-voltage and vacuum systems.
  • Author clear technical reports, failure summaries, and shift handoff documentation.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to operators and technicians on troubleshooting and equipment use.
Key

Competencies:

To perform the job successfully, the individual should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position:

  • Strong analytical skills for correlating data, test results, and physical evidence.
  • Hands‑on troubleshooting capability across electrical, mechanical, and vacuum systems.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair complex manufacturing/test equipment with limited support.
  • Strong decision‑making and problem‑solving skills in a low‑support, off‑shift environment.
  • Experience with SPC, DOE, and statistical analysis methods (preferred).
  • Experience with statistical software such as JMP, R, or Minitab (preferred).
  • Effective communication skills for cross‑shift and cross‑functional alignment.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Materials Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment performing:
    • Failure analysis.
    • Equipment troubleshooting and repair.
    • Data‑driven process improvement.
  • Hands‑on experience maintaining and troubleshooting manufacturing or test equipment.
  • Experience with high-voltage systems, vacuum systems, or X‑ray/e‑beam technologies (preferred).
  • Experience supporting production in an off‑shift or high‑autonomy environment (preferred).
