Position: 4-H Mentoring Site Coordinator

Overview

The Utah 4-H Mentoring Program is seeking a part-time Site Coordinator to serve youth and families in the Orem area. This community-based program has been supporting youth ages 9–15 since 2001, offering one‑on‑one mentoring, monthly activities, and family engagement. Our goal is to connect caring mentors with youth who can benefit from extra support, especially those from low‑income or underserved neighborhoods.

As a Site Coordinator, you will help guide this important work by supporting mentors, youth, and families through planning and implementing monthly events, overseeing mentoring matches, and coordinating local outreach efforts.

Position Details
  • Location:

    Orem area with regular travel to homes, schools, and events throughout Utah County. This position is hybrid work eligible within the state of Utah
  • Schedule:

    15–20 hours per week with flexible scheduling
  • Events:
    Monthly mentor/mentee and family activities typically held on weeknights or Saturdays
  • Compensation:
    Hourly wage based on experience
Responsibilities
  • Maintain 20 to 30 mentor/mentee matches at your designated site
  • Recruit, screen, train and support volunteer adult mentors
  • Recruit and retain youth and families for the program
  • Conduct home visits and maintain contact with youth and families
  • Plan and implement monthly events, such as Family Night Out and mentor/mentee activities
  • Help youth participate in 4‑H enrichment opportunities such as clubs, service projects, and camps
  • Build and maintain relationships with local schools, community partners, and referral sources as a consistent and trusted presence in the community
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings
  • Plan and implement trainings for mentors
  • Maintain site data (volunteers, families/youth, surveys, etc.), including participation and activity data
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be able to work effectively with volunteers, youth and families
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Applications, Google Drive, Gmail, Social Media)
  • Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and occasional Saturdays
  • Reliable access to transportation for local travel to and from work locations, such as homes, schools, and events throughout Utah County
Preferred Qualifications
  • College education
  • Mentoring experience working with children, youth, and families
  • Past experience in the 4‑H as a youth or volunteer
  • Past experience working with nonprofits, community organizations
  • Cultural competence and experience with diverse populations
  • Experience in events planning
  • Bi‑lingual – English/Spanish
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Self‑starter, good follow‑through
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and event coordination skills
  • A strong interest in youth development and community engagement
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks with little supervision

Job offer is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check. The successful candidate must complete required USU Extension training.

This position requires frequent in‑person interaction with youth, families, mentors, and staff. Work is performed in a variety of settings, including schools, community centers, family homes, and outdoor locations. The work environment may vary based on event location and community partner facilities. The position may involve working occasional evenings and Saturdays to accommodate program activities and events.

  • Regular local travel within Utah County is required
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and drive for extended periods
  • Occasional lifting and moving of materials up to 25 pounds may be required (e.g., event supplies, outreach materials)
  • Ability to operate a computer and other standard office equipment is necessary
  • Requires clear verbal and written communication skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and sustained attention to detail
