Position

Purpose:

The purpose of this Veterinarian Technician position involves providing excellent veterinary care to Vetco Total Care full-service hospital patients and exceptional customer care to their owners. The Veterinary Technician represents the mission and values to all clients and partners. They set the tone for the technical and customer support team and foster cohesion and motivation within the hospital partners.

Responsibilities
  • Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments or walk-ins, escort to an exam room, obtain weight and vital signs, record in the electronic medical record, and begin documentation of the patient visit.
  • Assist veterinarians with appointments (routine and emergency), surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia under supervision from veterinarians and the Hospital Office Manager or Hospital Leader on Duty.
  • Perform patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications as directed, and maintain the electronic medical record.
  • Schedule appointments, educate clients, relay test results, maintain and update inventory and client/patient records, and manage accounts receivable.
  • Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures; safely support induction and monitoring of anesthetized patients, monitor vital parameters, and discharge or transfer as needed.
  • Provide in-hospital treatments including injectable and oral medications, intravenous therapies, and basic patient care such as feeding and hydration; walk canine patients as needed for elimination.
  • Participate in training of new staff and dissemination of knowledge as required.
  • Keep hospital environment neat and clean; perform regular cleaning according to a maintenance schedule.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Provide backup phone and front desk support as needed.
Nature Of Supervision

In all activities related to patient care, the Veterinary Technician takes direct supervision from the veterinarians and the Hospital Office Manager or Hospital Leader on Duty. For overall supervision, direction comes from the Hospital Office Manager.

Planning and Problem Solving

Like all team members, the Veterinary Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring day-to-day hospital operations are efficient and provide an optimal experience for patients and clients.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no immediate supervisory duties.

Education/Experience
  • College or college-equivalent education required to become a Credentialed Veterinary Technician in the state where the hospital is located.
  • At least 1 year of previous experience as a Veterinary Technician or in a veterinary practice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Compassionate, professional demeanor under emotional and stressful situations.
  • Telephone and computer skills.
  • Team-oriented with a willingness to learn new techniques and treatments, offer creative ideas, and adapt to change.
