Hours per week: 15 hrs per week (3.0 hrs/day, Monday - Friday)
Start Pay: $19.53 per hour (Position for 2026-27 school year; rates shown for 2025-26 school year).
Closing Date: 06/15/2026 at 3:00 pm, Final Final date to receive applications.
High School Diploma or GED required.
Job Summary
The Nutrition Service Worker is responsible for supporting school meal preparation and service in an assigned location. This includes working with heated equipment, operating kitchen tools and machinery, ensuring food safety and cleanliness, and assisting with the day‑to‑‑day functions of a school kitchen. This is a highly physical role that requires frequent movement, lifting, and time spent on your feet.
- Prepares, heats, and portions food using standardized recipes and instructions.
- Operates commercial kitchen equipment including ovens, warmers, mixers, and slicers.
- Uses kitchen tools independently, safely and responsibly (cutting, chopping, slicing, portioning).
- Serves meals to students, staff, and faculty with attention to portion size, presentation, and nutrition guidelines.
- Follows food safety and hygiene practices (temperature logs, storage, handwashing).
- Maintains clean and sanitary food preparation, serving, eating, and dishwashing areas.
- Cleans floors, counters, equipment, utensils during and after meal service.
- Assists with dishwashing using three‑compartment sink or commercial dishwashing machine.
- Restocks salad bars, coolers, condiment stations, and other service areas as appropriate.
- Receives, puts away deliveries, rotates inventory, pulls items for daily use.
- May be responsible for cashiering, recording meal counts, or handling money.
- May be temporarily assigned to other school kitchens throughout the district as needed.
- Participates in team meetings and department‑required training.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Positive teamwork in a structured kitchen setting.
- Safe handling of food, chemicals, and equipment.
- Reading and following recipes and written instructions precisely.
- Basic math and reading comprehension for portioning, inventory, and cashiering tasks.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Adaptability to changing needs, locations, and assignments.
- Reading and interpreting safety instructions and communications from the Nutrition Services department.
- Ability to meet deadlines and maintain a calm, professional demeanor.
- Independent and safe use of commercial‑grade kitchen equipment.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current Utah recognized Food Handler's permit.
- Not applicable.
- Positive interactions with students, staff, managers, coordinators, administrators and other district personnel.
- Speak and/or hear as required.
- Frequently stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, twist, crouch.
- Occasionally use hands to feel/handle, climb or balance.
- Handle hot and cold items.
- Vision abilities: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception.
- Lift/ move up to 20 lbs frequently, up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- Reach above head while lifting 20 lbs.
