Installation Technician
Position Overview
The role involves the installation of mobile, fixed radio, and wireless communications equipment in various vehicles, following both manufacturer and company guidelines. The position frequently encounters moderate complexity in work situations, which may occasionally deviate from established norms. The work operates within established procedures and involves moderate supervision.
Career PathThis position represents the first level in the Mobile Installation Career Path, progressing to Mobile Upfitting Specialist (Level
2), Mobile Upfitting Specialist Lead (Level
3), Mobile Upfitting Shop Foreman (Level
4), and Mobile Upfitting Manager (Level
5).
- Execute installations of fixed and wireless communications equipment by assembling and securing components in vehicles, adhering to guidelines and under the direction of the Lead or Service Manager.
- Perform installations both at the shop location and at customer sites.
- Inventory and assemble necessary parts, staging them prior to installation to ensure all components are available.
- Assist in optimizing equipment post-installation to ensure proper functionality.
- Complete job tickets and timesheets to document installation activities.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized workspace and tools.
- Foster positive customer relations and communicate additional information as needed.
- May be asked to undertake additional assignments as required.
- Travel may be required, which could involve local daily trips or occasional overnight stays.
- Basic knowledge of electrical wiring is preferred, but training will be provided.
- Familiarity with hand tools and 12V systems is essential.
- Mechanical aptitude to operate hand and power tools, along with basic electronic equipment (e.g., voltmeter, wattmeter, soldering iron) is desired. Knowledge of installation procedures for alarms, wigwags, sirens, light bars, relays, and covert radio installations is a plus.
- Good oral communication skills are necessary.
- Experience in installing mobile and fixed communications equipment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is preferred but not mandatory.
- Ability to maneuver in confined spaces, such as under dashboards and within vehicle cabs, as well as beneath vehicles when necessary.
- A high school diploma is required; additional education or trade school training in electrical, wiring, or automotive fields is preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License
- Clean Driving Record is required (Major infractions are a disqualifier. ex: DUI, any drug motor vehicle offence, hit & run, reckless driving infractions, driving while suspended, passing a stopped school bus, involvement in a fatal accident, or 3 or more minor infractions within 3 year period)
