Summary

of Responsibilities
  • Perform high‑quality inspections, including opening, servicing, and maintenance of aircraft systems and components on a variety of aircraft. Use proper hand tools in a timely, clean, safe, and professional manner, with no rework. Accurately request general aircraft parts as needed through inventory control. Perform troubleshooting, function testing, and repairs of aircraft systems and components. Examine finished work to ensure the aircraft is ready for operations.

    Consistently locate and use appropriate technical data and follow verbal instructions when accomplishing assigned maintenance tasks. Operate all required ground support equipment. Communicate effectively & efficiently with supervisors. Maintain professionalism on all levels in regard to language, actions, and as defined by UVU policy.
  • Prepare various documents for record‑keeping purposes, as required by policy and FAA regulations. Demonstrate proficiency in the work order system and complete accurate and timely discrepancies and corrective action statements, service bulletins, and airworthiness directives (AD) compliance statements, final inspection, and closing of discrepancies and inspections. Understand and interpret service bulletins, maintenance manuals, and other specifications to ascertain the feasibility and techniques of replacing or repairing faulty or damaged components.
  • Perform end‑of‑shift cleanup of all hazardous materials, hoses, electrical cords, rags, and other items. Attend recurring training sessions conducted in‑house or by manufacturers.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Completion of two years of education from an accredited institution or a recognized trade school, plus two years of apprenticeship experience related to the Summary of Duties, and an aircraft maintenance tech certificate with A & P (Airframe and Powerplant) ratings.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of piston‑powered General Aviation aircraft.
  • Experience in the maintenance of these aircraft within a Part 145 Repair Station environment.
  • An Inspection Authorization rating within the Mechanic certificate is preferred.
Licenses / Certifications
  • Meet all FAA and Safety Requirements.
  • Must hold a valid FAA‑issued A & P Certificate.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Knowledge
  • Understand and interpret approved documentation, aircraft inspection programs, and federal regulations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of CFR parts 145 and 43.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques.

Abilities
  • Handle hazardous materials, including 100LL, Jet A, hydraulic fluid, and other solvents and paints.

  • Exercise good judgement in a team environment, as well as in aircraft maintenance and safety.
  • Maintain safety standards and work in stressful situations.
  • Work outdoors and sometimes in unpleasant/inclement weather.
  • Verify compliance with FAA regulations, flight directives, inspections, and accompanying paperwork and records.
  • Work in a team environment.
  • Work in confined spaces when inspecting and repairing aircraft.
