Cardinal Joseph Bernardin, a PK-8 Catholic school in the south suburbs, is seeking a knowledgeable, caring school nurse to join our staff. This person would be responsible for helping students attain an optimum level of physical, social and emotional health through working closely with other staff, administration and families. This is a full-time, benefits eligible position.



Job Responsibilities

• Maintain immunization and health records of individual students, reaching out to parents regarding missing information
• Assist with health screenings, such as hearing/vision
• Assess students who visit the nurse’s office, determining whether they should be sent home, and contacting parents in these instances
• Provide faculty and staff with first aid supplies and training
• Assure faculty/staff compliance with state and federal requirements such as blood borne pathogen and Epi-Pen training
• Assist in the prevention and control of communicable diseases
• Counsel with teachers, students, and parents concerning children's individual health problems
• Assist with emergency care of students in the event of accidents or sudden illness
• Work closely with the student support team (resource teacher, counselor, administration) in order to promote the total health of students
• Attend planning and professional development meetings, Open House/Back to School Nights

Job Requirements

• Completed Bachelor’s Degree or LPN training from an accredited institution
• Current state board nursing license (R.N. or L.P.N.)
• Minimum of one year of experience in nursing
• Compliance with all required VIRTUS, mandated reporter training, Faith’s Law, etc. upon hire
• Compassion and respect for all students
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and parents

This position has an hourly salary range of $25.00 - $28.00. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on many factors including but not limited to: relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and organizational needs.
