This role is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys full-cycle property accounting, financial reporting, and building relationships with operational teams.
Key Responsibilities of the Property Accountant- Manage the full-cycle accounting process for an assigned portfolio of multifamily properties
- Prepare monthly financial statements, journal entries, and account reconciliations
- Perform month-end close activities, including balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis
- Monitor cash flow, forecast cash needs, and oversee property-level banking activity
- Calculate and process management fees, owner distributions, accruals, and reclasses
- Coordinate with on-site property management teams to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
- Review financial statements and provide analysis and commentary to leadership
- Monitor lender escrows, replacement reserves, debt service, and other property obligations
- Assist with annual budgets, reforecasts, audits, and special projects
- Support property acquisitions, dispositions, and new property onboarding as needed
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
- 3+ years of property accounting experience, with multifamily experience strongly preferred
- Experience managing the full accounting cycle for multiple properties
- Strong understanding of GAAP, financial statements, month-end close, and account reconciliations
- Experience with Yardi, Real Page, MRI, or similar property management/accounting software
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required
- Experience with cash forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting preferred
- CPA or CPA-track is a plus, but not required
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship requirements
