This role is ideal for an accountant who already has a strong general ledger and month-end close foundation and is looking for greater responsibility within a larger corporate accounting environment.
Key Responsibilities of the Staff Accountant- Prepare and record journal entries in accordance with the monthly closing schedule
- Compile and analyze financial results for assigned areas during month-end close
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and supporting month-end schedules
- Research and resolve reconciling items and accounting discrepancies
- Analyze financial variances and provide supporting explanations to senior accounting leadership
- Maintain accurate general ledger and subledger activity
- Assist with preparation of balance sheet and profit and loss reporting
- Support annual external audit requests and preparation of supporting documentation
- Assist with budget-related reporting and accounting inquiries
- Provide financial information and reporting support during system implementations, audits, budgeting cycles, and other accounting initiatives
The underlying position specifically owns journal entries, close support, variance research, balance-sheet reconciliations, audit assistance, and budget support.
Qualifications for the Staff Accountant- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
- 3–5 years of accounting experience within a general ledger and month-end close environment required
- Strong experience with journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
- Working knowledge of GAAP and corporate accounting processes
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including the ability to create and interpret spreadsheets
- Experience working with accounting or ERP systems
- Ability to support accounting deadlines, including additional hours during peak financial reporting periods
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship requirements
The bachelor's degree in Accounting and 3–5 years of relevant month-end close/general-ledger experience are explicit requirements in the client's JD.
