Controller, Accounting, Financial Reporting

A leading and well-established commercial specialty contractor is seeking an experienced Controller to join its growing finance team.

With decades of experience and a strong presence across the Southeast, the company delivers complex commercial interior construction solutions across sectors including commercial, healthcare, education, aviation, hospitality and government
. Its work encompasses acoustical ceilings, drywall, wall systems, flooring, sound control and other specialty interior systems.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on accounting professional with construction industry experience who wants to take ownership of financial operations within a well-established and growing organization.

The Role

The Controller will be responsible for overseeing the company's accounting and financial operations, ensuring accurate reporting, strong financial controls and effective financial management across the business.

You will work closely with senior leadership and operational teams, providing financial insight and supporting sound commercial decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting and financial operations
• Manage and develop the accounting/finance team
• Lead the monthly, quarterly and year-end close processes
• Prepare and analyze financial statements and management reports
• Oversee WIP accounting, percentage-of-completion and job costing
• Monitor project financial performance, margins, revenue and costs
• Manage accounts receivable, accounts payable and cash flow
• Support budgeting, forecasting and financial planning
• Maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures
• Work closely with Project Managers and operational leadership to ensure accurate project financial reporting
• Coordinate audits, tax requirements and external financial reporting
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, systems and reporting
• Provide senior leadership with meaningful financial analysis and recommendations
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies and applicable regulations

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
• Proven experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller or senior accounting professional
• Construction industry experience is strongly preferred
• Strong understanding of construction accounting and job costing
• Experience with WIP, percentage-of-completion accounting and project-based financial reporting
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
• Experience managing and developing accounting personnel
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Strong Excel and accounting software skills
• High level of accuracy, organization and attention to detail
• Ability to work effectively with both finance and operations teams
• Strong communication and leadership skills
