Overview

Job Overview Oversee procurement process and manage vendors as they relate to the production and distribution of print products, fulfillment materials and services for various departments within Darden and operating companies. Partner with clients, creative group, and vendors to ensure cost effective and timely delivery of print products. Negotiate contracts, foster new vendor relationships and manage current vendor relationships through the utilization of quality control, cost tracking and supplier performance evaluations.

Offer process and project improvement by communicating vendor specifications, recommending efficient and economical production alternatives and continued quality service to surpass internal client expectations.

Roles And Responsibilities
  • Liaison between corporate departments and vendors for printed material and other collateral
  • Prepare quotes, order materials and issue purchase orders as required
  • Maintain appropriate documentation related to processes and guidelines associated with vendor/supplier management, RFPs, bids, etc.
  • Plan, organize and manage the purchase of printed material, utilizing the internal copy center and/or outside vendors to assure that projects reflect cost savings, highest quality and quickest turnaround
  • Perform cost and value analysis of printer material being purchased, make recommendations that will result in an increase of cost saving and/or quality of product
  • Follow quality control procedures over the receipt and inspection of purchased products to assure that products meet specifications and are of the highest quality
  • Establish a systematic working relationship with the internal Creative Group and Copy Center
  • Contribute to design and implementation of procurement processes and foundational procurement systems that improve service, efficiency, and quality, and reduce costs
  • Assist in developing and support strategic planning and continuous process improvement by participating in defining of department goals and assessment and measurement competencies
  • Evaluate vendors and costs to achieve maximum strategic advantage
  • Address and resolve vendor issues and material discrepancies with vendors
  • Regularly review products, suppliers, and costs, and propose purchasing and production efficiencies
  • Coordinate and oversee proofing needs and schedules with clients
  • Monitor production deadlines to ensure on-time and accurate project completion
  • Attend on-site press checks at vendor facilities; review products for color and quality consistency and compliance
Required Technical Skills
  • Minimum of 5 years direct buying experience as a Print Buyer, in Strategic Sourcing Management or similar position
  • Experience in the printing industry, preferably with print production experience
  • Superior negotiation skills for sourcing products and services
  • Thorough knowledge of strategic sourcing methodology and procurement practices, with demonstrated business acumen in purchasing and project budgeting, estimating and management
  • Thorough knowledge of principles and techniques of traditional, multi-color printing process and digital technologies
  • Strong PC computer skills, utilizing custom and standard software; proficient in Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Project management experience, preferably in purchasing or print industry
Required Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of employees; able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure on multiple projects concurrently, set priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Self-motivated individual possessing excellent mentoring, team-building and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Preferred Skills And Experience
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Experience using automated purchasing and inventory management systems a plus
