Product Manager

Job Summary

The Product Manager is responsible for developing and executing product strategies that drive growth, profitability, and market expansion for the company's aluminum and steel product lines. This role requires a strong technical understanding of metallurgy, mill processing, fabrication methods, and end‑use applications across a variety of industries. The Product Manager serves as the organization's subject matter expert for metal products and market opportunities, continuously evaluating industry trends, customer needs, competitive products, and emerging applications.

This individual will identify new market niches, develop product strategies, and work closely with sales, operations, procurement, and customers to ensure the company remains a leading supplier of value‑added metal solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute strategic plans for aluminum and steel product lines to drive growth and profitability.
  • Monitor market trends, customer demands, competitive activity, and emerging industry opportunities.
  • Identify and develop new market niches, applications, and product opportunities.
  • Serve as the company's technical expert on aluminum and steel metallurgy, processing, and end‑use applications.
  • Provide technical support and product recommendations to customers, sales teams, and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain expertise in metal alloys, grades, specifications, manufacturing processes, and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with customers to understand current and future material requirements.
  • Support sales efforts through customer visits, technical presentations, product training, and business development initiatives.
  • Develop product positioning, value propositions, and market intelligence to support commercial growth.
  • Work with procurement and operations teams to align sourcing, inventory, and production strategies with market needs.
  • Evaluate potential suppliers, processing partners, and new product opportunities.
  • Analyze pricing trends, market conditions, tariffs, and supply chain factors affecting the metals industry.
  • Track product line performance, profitability, and market share to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Lead cross‑functional initiatives related to product development, market expansion, and customer solutions.
  • Represent the company at customer meetings, industry events, trade shows, and supplier engagements.
  • Prepare and present recommendations, forecasts, and market analyses to senior leadership.
  • Communicate and build effective business relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively; strong organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Operate a computer using basic skills for inventory management and documentation.
  • Maintain strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in using CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Apply strong problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and deadlines with flexibility.
  • Travel as required to meet with clients and attend industry events.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Business, Supply Chain Management, or related field preferred (or equivalent work experience).
  • Knowledge of the metal industry and its products (steel, aluminum, etc.) is highly desirable.
  • Trader experience preferred.
  • Experience with product management, market development, technical sales, or business development preferred.
