Position: Sales / Estimator - Commercial Roofing

Overview

Experience: Mid Level

Salary: $80,000 - $130,000 per year

Sales / Estimating & Bidding
  • Prepare detailed, accurate, and code‑compliant project estimates
  • Perform takeoffs from drawings, site visits, and pre‑bid meetings
  • Utilize historical cost data to validate labor, material, and production assumptions
  • Build complete proposals including all scope components (roofing + sheet metal)
  • Maintain and manage bid logs and tracking systems
  • Follow up on bids, negotiate, and help close awarded work
Operations & Project Collaboration
  • Work closely with Operations to validate labor assumptions and job execution strategy
  • Align estimates with real‑world manpower and production capabilities
  • Package scopes and coordinate with subcontractors and vendors
  • Participate in pre‑roof / pre‑job meetings to ensure clear scope handoff
Pre‑Construction Planning
  • Develop clear scopes of work and detailed submittals
  • Review budgets with Operations and ensure alignment
  • Provide material lists using estimating software (The Edge or similar)
  • Coordinate schedules, expectations, and logistics with internal teams
  • Identify safety risks and ensure proper planning and documentation (MSDS, equipment, etc.)
  • Prepare and price change orders as needed
Project Lifecycle Involvement
  • Stay involved through project execution to maintain accountability
  • Attend post‑job review meetings to evaluate performance vs. estimate
  • Analyze job cost data and continuously improve estimating accuracy
Client & Industry Engagement
  • Maintain strong client communication during bid and negotiation phases
  • Represent the company at industry events, trade meetings, and networking functions
  • Stay current on commercial roofing systems, codes, and market trends
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of commercial roofing estimating experience OR 10+ years in roofing (field, sales, or technical)
  • Strong knowledge of commercial roofing systems (TPO, Sheet metal, PVC, Modified Bitumen, etc.)
  • Proven ability to build estimates from takeoff through final proposal
  • Experience with estimating software
  • Solid understanding of labor production rates, job costing, and gross profit targets
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
  • Strong communication skills — both internal (Ops) and external (clients)
  • Detail‑oriented with the ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously
