Job DescriptionWe are seeking Engineering Inspectors I/II to perform technical level inspections of utilities and construction projects. These positions are field‑based and require a strong understanding of construction practices, documentation, and inspection procedures. Inspectors review contract documents, approved design plans, specifications, and applicable regulations; schedule and observe contractor tests; maintain records and reports; and act as a point of contact for contractors and county departments.
- Supervise and perform inspections of projects to ensure compliance with contract documents, design plans, and specifications.
- Read and interpret design plans and specifications.
- Make field changes that do not alter scope or cost.
- Schedule and observe contractor materials, structure, and process tests.
- Maintain records and prepare inspector reports; may supervise the inspection function in the supervisor’s absence.
- Act as the Residential Project Representative, coordinating with contractors, engineering staff, and other county departments.
- Coordinate laboratory or on‑site field testing for civil and mechanical construction.
- Prepare daily reports, photographic records, and red‑line drawings/specifications to document deviations, conflicts, and changes.
- Maintain electronic and physical filing of project documentation.
Engineers are essential first responders and must report to work during emergencies.
Minimum QualificationsMust possess a valid driver’s license and obtain a Florida driver’s license by hire date.
- High school graduation or equivalent and two (2) years of engineering or construction experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Complete the Contractor’s Underground Utility Examination for Inspector within two (2) years of hire.
- High school graduation or equivalent and four (4) years of appropriate engineering or construction experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
- Complete the Contractor’s Underground Utility Examination for inspectors within six (6) months of entry.
- Ability to communicate with the general public while explaining standards and codes.
- Inspection experience in utilities, roadways, electrical, plumbing, or geotechnical inspections.
- Experience reading and interpreting plans and specifications for infrastructure.
- Experience working with contractors.
- Field experience.
