The Orange County Regional History Center is seeking an aspiring historian or museum professional for the position of Collections and Digital Archives Intern. The History Center is a national multi‑award‑winning, AAM accredited, and Smithsonian affiliated institution centered around its mission: to serve as the gateway for community engagement, education, and inspiration by preserving and sharing Central Florida’s continually unfolding story.
The History Center seeks a graduate student to help catalog and digitize the museum’s collection, offering an excellent opportunity to gain experience in processing collections and digital archiving.
Reports toCollections Manager
Representative Duties- Adheres to archival standards, best practices, and benchmarks for the preservation and digitization of archival materials and remains aware of emerging technologies and trends.
- Process recent acquisitions including cataloging, photographing, packing and storing.
- Assist in conducting a large‑scale inventory project to include researching, cataloging, photographing, and packing historic artifacts.
- Assist in digitization of various historical materials.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Presently enrolled in a graduate program seeking an advanced degree in museum studies, public history, history, library sciences, or a closely related field.
- Must possess general knowledge of museum standards, artifact handling and local history.
- Knowledge of current trends in the preservation of digital materials and archival standards.
- Must have strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Must successfully pass a background screening and fingerprinting, must be able to live and work in the United States, and will be required to pass a drug test.
- Effective and exceptional written and verbal communication skills with both internal teams and external stakeholders and donors.
- Possesses a strong working knowledge of museum best practices and artifact handling.
- Detail‑oriented with ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with Proficio and Terentia databases.
- Fluency in Spanish and English.
182 hours total, approximately 13 hours per week for 14 weeks. Work hours from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday, August through December 2026.
Primary Work LocationOffsite storage facility located approximately 25‑30 minutes south of downtown Orlando (exact location to be disclosed at time of hire).
