The Horticulture Design intern will learn skills essential to successfully working on a high‑end resort. Intern will apply Landscape Architectural processes within the framework of Universal Orlando's Horticulture division. Intern will gain hands‑on experience in the design and implementation of landscapes within UO parks. Daily interaction with Horticulture's Landscape Architect will focus on area theming, design sketches, field sketches, development of design skills and hand‑drawing skills.
Intern will develop knowledge of Florida plant material, understand irrigation design, and learn to interact successfully with field personnel and other industry professionals.
- Assesses current condition of resort landscaping, considering influences such as theme, maintenance, guests, and past successes.
- Participates in field measurements and maintenance evaluations.
- Participates in park walks with Landscape Architect, Supervisors, Manager, and Vice President on a regular basis to study theming.
- Observes area theme retention, health, and renovation needs.
- Studies plant material and design usage.
- Assists with nursery visits with Landscape Architect or Supervisors.
- Manages document control and reporting costs after design.
- Develops design skills and graphic communication.
- Updates project tracking systems.
- Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training, and Team Member involvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- In pursuit of an Associate, Bachelor or Graduate degree at an Accredited Institution with current class standing of Sophomore or above.
- Minimum cumulative 2.8 GPA is required.
- A transcript is required upon application.
- Preferred majors include:
Landscape Architecture, Landscape Design, or similar. - Skill in Drawing, Sketching, and Writing.
- Preferred experience with landscape maintenance.
- This internship will be an in‑person experience, based in our Orlando offices.
- Interns must be currently pursuing a degree at an accredited university, and must have a graduation date later than April 2027.
- Universal Orlando does not provide housing. Interns are responsible for their own housing and transportation.
- All of our internships are paid, and you may also qualify for housing financial assistance if applicable. The Recruiter will provide specific eligibility details.
