What if the most effective way to teach young children to read is by connecting with them through gaming culture, where progression, persistence, and skill-building are already second nature?
You will facilitate small‑group literacy workshops at a school designed around the passions of young gamers, combining phonics instruction, adaptive literacy technology, and coaching to inspire K‑2 students to embrace reading with the same enthusiasm they have for games.
Austin provides live music, mild winters, scenic hill country hiking, and a vibrant education innovation community you will join.
What You Will Be Doing- Create and facilitate small‑group literacy workshops for K‑2 students, ensuring phonics instruction is engaging, enjoyable, and tailored to individual needs.
- Modify teaching approaches on the spot according to student needs, group proficiency levels, and engagement signals.
- Conduct motivational coaching sessions with students to promote progress in adaptive literacy apps and meet learning milestones.
- Track student performance data from adaptive platforms and apply it to customize instruction for each literacy group.
- Employ storytelling, humor, gaming metaphors, and positive feedback to sustain student effort and address resistance.
- Willing to work on‑site at Next Gen Academy in Austin, TX.
- Bachelor’s degree in elementary education, reading, or a related field.
- Certification in structured literacy approaches such as Orton‑Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, or a similar evidence‑based phonics program.
- 2+ years of experience delivering small‑group reading instruction to K‑2 students or struggling readers.
- Demonstrated ability to assess student reading levels and design differentiated instruction independently.
