Valencia College is hiring three Part‑time Instructional Lab Assistants, Sr (Writing Tutors) to join the Writing Center teams. In this position, you will have the opportunity to provide writing assistance for students who need assistance with various types of writing.
The Writing Centers at the Downtown campus and West campus offer free writing consultations for students. Writing consultants (tutors) provide assistance with any part of the writing process, including brainstorming, outlining, formatting, and citations. They support various types of college writing, such as essays, lab reports, proposals, scholarship applications, job applications, and cover letters. Writing consultants also collaborate with team members to design and deliver workshops and presentations.
IdealCandidate
- Mastery of the conventions of standard American English
- Familiarity with the conventions of college‑level writing
- Ability to explain writing and grammar conventions clearly and concisely
- Strong communication skills—oral, written, and in group settings
- This position operates in a primarily on‑site environment.
- Eligible for Veteran’s Preference under Florida Statute 295.07(5)(a), F.S.

- Knowledge of rules, regulations, and procedures of the area of assignment

This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. The employee will routinely operate standard office equipment including computers, keyboards, mouse, phones, photocopiers, printers, scanners, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Noise level is usually quiet to moderate. Typical physical competencies include frequent remaining stationary, moving, reaching, positioning self, and occasionally lifting objects weighing 5‑15 pounds. The job also entails frequent communication, discretion, judgment, reasoning, memory, learning, maintaining confidentiality, comprehension, problem solving, and decision making.
