Job Description

Summary:

The Secondary Teacher (grades 6‑12) is responsible for the instruction of designated content area(s) or course(s) in a classroom setting within a secondary school.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement appropriate instruction of assigned content area(s) or course(s) in accordance with state standards, district curriculum, and students’ needs.
  • Create a positive educational climate for students to learn in an atmosphere of respect and rapport.
  • Develop and deliver relevant and rigorous lessons that maximize student engagement and achievement.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching practices and methodologies that reflect diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds to meet individual student needs.
  • Observe and evaluate student performance and mastery of standards, monitor assessment data, and maintain student grades and attendance.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by employing effective classroom‑management strategies and invoking appropriate disciplinary procedures.
  • Communicate with parents and school/district personnel regarding student progress and encourage parental involvement.
  • Take all responsible precautions to provide for the health and safety of students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Appropriately maintain and secure confidential records, inquiries, and data.
  • Maintain appropriate certifications and professional development hours as required.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Apply basic math concepts such as probability, statistics, geometry, trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability: Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables where limited standardization exists; interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer

Skills:

Knowledge of relevant and current computer software programs.
