Background Screening Notice (Florida HB 531)This position requires background screening through the Florida Care Provider Clearinghouse (Level
2), as mandated by law. Qualified applicants who receive a conditional offer will be provided with step‑by‑step instructions and timelines for completing the screening process.
On‑call, as needed from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Must be able to travel to Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties and work up to 25 hours per week. Must also enroll in the 45‑hour DCF training within the first 3 weeks of employment.
General DescriptionProvides services to Early Head Start and Head Start children and families in compliance with the Head Start Performance Standards. Child‑care work involves assisting the teacher in working with young children and families to develop their cognitive, social, emotional, and physical growth.
Essential Job Functions- Perform teacher or teacher assistant duties in the absence of the teacher or assistant, including following lesson plans and daily classroom routines.
- Implement lesson plans and individual goals as directed by the teacher or TA.
- Use behavior and classroom management techniques consistently.
- Provide basic care (e.g., diaper changing, feeding, cleaning hands and faces).
- Carry out daily/weekly housekeeping chores in the classroom.
- Maintain positive staff and parent interactions.
- Inform teacher/TA of all parent and staff concerns and complaints.
- Report child abuse cases.
- Ensure compliance with Head Start/Early Head Start, HIPAA, Department of Education, 4C, Department of Children and Families, and other regulatory agencies.
- Work in assigned classrooms as needed, traveling when necessary.
- Assist teacher with classroom records, progress and accident reports.
- Help classroom volunteers with routine.
- Ensure compliance with child outcomes, Florida Early Childhood standards, and Head Start curriculum goals.
- Attend all pre‑service, in‑service, and mandatory trainings.
- Participate in the agency’s quality improvement program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of English language structure, composition rules, and grammar.
- Knowledge of early childhood growth and development.
- Knowledge of child‑care practices, procedures, and regulations.
- Ability to learn and follow Head Start Performance Standards and policies.
- Ability to receive and follow detailed instructions.
- Operating a personal computer and using word‑processing and database software.
- Internet navigation skills.
- Maintain composure, control emotions, and avoid aggressive behavior.
- Establish effective relationships with staff, parents, volunteers, and community representatives.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Work and communicate with individuals from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Sensitivity to the needs, abilities, beliefs, and attitudes of clients and coworkers.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- One (1) year or more experience in childcare or school experience working with assigned age ranges is preferred.
- Must obtain at least fifteen (15) clock hours of certified training per year.
- Must enroll and complete the State‑mandated 45‑hour childcare module within three weeks of hire.
Must meet criteria for background screening as required for childcare personnel in childcare licensing regulations.
Essential Physical Skills- Perform physical activities requiring the use of arms, legs, and whole body.
- May require moderate lifting, approximately 30–50 pounds, for example in lifting children.
- Requires bending, stooping, and kneeling.
- Prevent children from hurting themselves or others.
- Stand or remain in continuous motion for extended periods while performing job functions.
- Speak in front of large groups.
- Set up meetings, move tables and chairs, and perform cleanup.
