As a Deputy State Director (DSD), you will be a member of the Education Leadership team who reports to and supports the State Director (SD) to drive the excellence of our K-12 network of schools' academic performance, operations, educational programs and CSUSA's core educational strategies.

The DSD supervises, with oversight from the SD, all regional operations personnel within their assigned state / region, and is responsible for leading and creating the culture required to uphold CSUSA's mission, values, and promise.

The Deputy Director will support and coach principals and leadership in areas such as curriculum and instruction, accountability and assessment, and further support school improvement within their assigned portfolio as well as work collaboratively with the State Director (SD) to implement our premier educational model focused on data-driven instruction and student achievement. The Deputy Director will create a culture of constant improvement and serve as inspirational leaders, committed to educational and operational excellence and attaining the highest student performance and growth outcomes.

The Deputy Director will assist the SD in providing guidance and support to the state team and regional staff and help them reach high levels of achievement. Under the leadership of the SD, the Deputy Director will work with the state team, regional team, and the national team to develop systems and processes that meet the needs of the specific area.

The SD and the Deputy Director will work to create a culture of performance results, accountability, and excellence within each area within the state. The Deputy Director will be knowledgeable of their state-specific education policies and procedures in all academic areas, school operations, mandated State reports, charter renewals, teacher and principal evaluations and accountability frameworks that determine school performance. The Deputy Directory shall also be knowledgeable of federal statutes that impact academic programs and services within their assigned state as well as support operations, strategic development, and further support school improvement within their assigned state.

Talent Development

  • Builds schools' capacity to support school improvement.
  • Provides coaching, support, and professional learning strategies school principals' and leadership teams to grow as instructional leaders.
  • Engages school principals in the principal evaluation process in ways that facilitate their growth as instructional leaders.
  • Guides the organization in designing both principal coaching or mentoring and teacher instructional coaching to address meaningful goals for student learning.
  • Creates expectations and support to schools within the state.
  • Monitors and ensures rigor in the selection, hiring, and retention processes used to identify highly qualified and effective employees.
  • Engages in self-development and continuous improvement to facilitate school principals' and leadership teams in growth as instructional leaders.
