Coordinator, Veterans
The objective of the coordinator is to assist veterans or the dependents of veterans, with the application and certification process as well as to develop and maintain outreach programs for veterans and dependents of veterans within the community. This holistic approach addresses the veterans (or dependents of veterans) completely. The Veterans Coordinator acts as a liaison with the Regional Processing Office.
This position allows eligible veterans and their spouses to claim Veterans' Preference pursuant to Florida Statute 295. Certain service members may be eligible to receive waivers for postsecondary educational requirements, in the employment by the state and its political subdivisions and are encouraged to apply for the positions being filled. Applicants claiming preference are responsible for providing required documentation at the time of submitting application.

Minimum Education:
Bachelor's Degree required. An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
Minimum Experience/Training:
Four years of relevant experience. Experience required is within field or closely related field. Extensive knowledge concerning Veteran's Affairs and processing of their Educational Benefits.
Essential Functions:
Daily
-35%:
Coordinates all service areas relative to veteran student services (including dependents of veterans) Communicates to veteran students and their dependents on an individual basis when they need assistance.
Weekly
-10%:
Acts as liaison between the Veterans Administration office and the student. Follows up on certifications to ensure that VA has received and processed student's paperwork.
Semester Basis
-10%:
Processes and certify all eligible veterans and dependents of veterans.
Daily
-15%:
Develops and maintain outreach programs to assist all veteran students and dependents of veterans in the community.
Other, as Needed - 5%:
Assists in promoting the college's veterans services at college functions including but not limited to new/returning student orientation.
Daily
-10%:
Communicates with other offices of the Veterans Administration on behalf of the veteran students.
Other, as Needed
-5%:
Regularly acquires and disseminates any federal updates regarding the VA.
Daily
-5%:
Communicates with the BC accounting department to ensure that all VA funds are properly disbursed, reconciled etc.
Other, as Needed-5%:
Coordinates services with the BC Disabilities department to ensure that vets with disabilities receives appropriate assistance and any necessary accommodations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Have extensive knowledge concerning all veterans' affairs at it relates to veteran students and/or students who are dependents of veterans. Have extensive knowledge in the actual processing of information for veteran students and/or students who are dependents of veterans. Have communication skills to relay and provide information to veteran students and/or students who are dependents of veterans. Have the ability to make the students comfortable with the entire veteran process.
Have the ability to communicate on a professional level to other veteran administrative areas on behalf of the student. Have general knowledge of other federal financial aid programs so as to properly encourage and advise VA students on how to apply for said funding.
