Teaching Artist Position
Teaching artists are responsible for enthusiastically teaching various performing arts classes in various genres to students ages 3 years old to 65+. Teaching artists work closely with the School of the Arts Manager and/or Director, Education to create a course syllabus and lesson plans for specified performing arts classes. Teaching artist positions are part-time and will be scheduled to work according to the fall/spring class schedule.
EssentialJob Functions/Responsibilities
- Teach a specified class or classes in our Adventhealth School of the Arts at the Dr. Phillips Center:
- Musical Theatre Performance-performance and fundamental technique classes
- Dance –Broadway & jazz, adult Latin dance series, and toddler creative movement classes
- Acting- acting for film/tv, improv comedy, and one-act play classes
- Voice- musical theater pop, music fundamentals, and adult musical theater cabaret
- Homeschool- acting, singing, and dance classes for homeschool students
- Wellness- yoga, Zumba, musical theater jazz for adults, and vocal ensemble and movement & relaxation for adults 65+
- Help design and implement age appropriate syllabus/lesson plans for specified classes/outreach classes/residencies/education programs.
- Attend scheduled education instructor training sessions, meetings, professional development sessions and occasional special events.
- Submit written lesson plans, assessment, teaching schedules, attendance sheets and invoices.
- Prepare materials, coordinate and obtain equipment, materials and supplies needed for classes with School of Arts Manager and greeter/s.
- Follow and support all operational policies and procedures. Assimilate into the arts center culture through understanding, supporting and demonstrating the core values.
- Maintain a professional and friendly relationship with students, parents, other teaching arts, other departments, colleagues, and partners.
- Able to remain calm under pressure. Ability to work effectively with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy. Maintain Dr. Phillips Center standards of customer service at all times.
- Able to effectively communicate in English in both written and oral forms.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree, MFA or related training preferred with a minimum of two years teaching experience.
- Demonstrate expertise working as a professional artist, and exhibit a strong commitment to working with people of all ages and backgrounds. Capable of performing/teaching in busy non-traditional classroom settings.
- Availability to work during school hours and/or after-school hours Tuesday thru Saturday.
- Experience working in an educational setting a plus.
- Outgoing, people oriented person with strong written, verbal, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency with Microsoft software/applications.
- Ability to facilitate group discussion and decision making.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, problem solve, be flexible, innovative and imaginative . Strong attention to detail.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal and sex offender background check, authorizing approval to work with minors.
- This position requires the ability to work a variable schedule, evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet operational needs.
- Teaching artists are hired for a specific school of arts class program. Some positions will be for a defined/temporary period of time.
- Must have reliable transportation and willing to travel.locally
