Valencia College is now hiring four Learning Assistant II (Tutors) to join the Learning Support Center tutoring team at the West Campus. This position will be supporting students with Science and/or Math
.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Previous tutoring experience
• Successfully completed one or more of the following courses:
  • Biology
    :
    Biological Science, Biology I, Biology II, Anatomy and Physiology I, Anatomy and Physiology II, Microbiology, Nutrition
  • Physics
    :
    General Physics with Calculus I, General Physics with Calculus II, College Physics with Algebra and Trigonometry I, College Physics with Algebra and Trigonometry II
  • Math
    :
    College Algebra, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus I, II, and III, Differential Equations, Mathematical Thinking, Mathematics in Context, Statistical Methods
• FICA Alternative to Social Security

Additional Information:

• This position operates in a Primarily On-Site environment with the possibility of occasional virtual meeting/training components.
• This position is eligible for Veteran’s Preference under Florida Statute 295.07(5)(a), F.S.

General Position Description

The Learning Assistant II will be responsible for providing academic assistance, mentoring and learning centered tutoring to any currently enrolled student based upon appropriate assessment of student needs.

Description of Job Function

• 1. Provides one on one or small group tutoring to currently enrolled students in a particular discipline.
• 2. Assesses academic ability of students being tutored using provided measurement instruments.
• 3. Meets with supervisory staff on a regular scheduled basis to discuss academic progress of students being tutored.
• 4. Assists supervisor with academic needs assessment.
• 5. Documents student progress for each session using provided instruments.
• 6. Implements an academic action plan for each session using provided instruments.
• 7. Participate in staff development training.
• 8. Performs other related duties as assigned.
