The Mechanical Specialist will be accountable for repairing, installing, and inspecting electronics or electronic systems as directed through verbal or written directions, diagrams, drawings, or specifications. It also maintains and makes necessary operating adjustments to the organization's electronic systems. The role includes planning, performing, and reporting on drivetrain (gearbox, main shaft, main bearing, generator bearings, etc.) inspections and repairs; troubleshooting all components associated with the drivetrain (pumps, fans, sensors, etc.),

with 95% travel site‑related required. The mechanical specialist will interface with clients, manage small crews, and may report to or assist O&M during downtime or other Advanced Maintenance jobs, including heavy lifts, major campaigns, and blades. Relocation will not be offered for this role.

Responsibilities
  • Work in confined/enclosed spaces and be comfortable with heights.
  • Perform borescope inspections of drivetrain components such as main shaft, bearings, gearbox, gears, and bearings.
  • Repair, install, and inspect electronics or electronic systems following verbal or written directions, diagrams, drawings, or specifications, and make necessary operating adjustments.
  • Perform gearbox repairs, including high‑speed bearings, high‑speed shafts, intermediate‑speed bearings, and mechanical pumps.
  • Assist in troubleshooting drivetrain‑related issues (pumps, sensors, brakes, cooling units, filters) and large corrective work involving crane work and replacement of gearboxes and main shafts.
  • Use strong written and verbal communication skills to describe complex damages, prepare inspection and repair reports, and follow up on final resolution.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of maintenance and electrical testing equipment for turbines.
  • Test electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems; perform maintenance on wind turbine equipment, troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic malfunctions, and replace worn or malfunctioning components.
  • Assist the Advanced Maintenance group with various projects, including large and small correctives on a variety of components.
  • Identify process improvements, such as reducing non‑value‑added operations and increasing safety or productivity opportunities.
  • Inspect, diagnose, adjust, and repair wind turbine components; inspect the exterior and physical integrity of towers and blades while following maximum safety guidelines using personal protection equipment.
  • Be willing to travel for extended periods of time – up to 95% of the time.
Qualifications
  • High School Graduate, GED, or equivalent.
  • 2–4 years of experience in a Mechanical and Electrical Specialist Repair Technician role.
  • Experience in turbine troubleshooting, including reading electrical and hydraulic schematics.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical inspection techniques.
  • Familiarity with turbine work and safety practices.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical repairs.
  • Experience documenting inspection repairs and creating reports.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Ability to work from height for inspection or repairs.
  • Experience using borescope and laser alignment tools, and digital camera setup and operation.
  • Capability to provide general guidance to others and train lower‑level employees.
  • Willingness to travel for extended periods of time – up to 100% of the time.
