This is a hybrid position offering two remote workdays per week. Must be onsite Tuesdays and Thursdays.

We are looking for a motivated Electrical Engineer with a strong background in power systems and protective relaying to support the design and reliability of substation protection and control systems. They will apply engineering expertise to support capital projects while ensuring compliance with NERC standards.

Ideal Candidate
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in the electric utility industry.
  • Must have strong understanding of AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards.
  • Ability to interpret Protection & Control drawings.
  • Strong project coordinator and task tracking abilities.

Salary Range

$94,210.39 – $ annually – commensurate with experience.

Job Purpose

Design protection and control relaying applications for substations with focus on Protection & Control Settings and SCADA Settings. Expected to develop or possess expertise in protective relay settings calculations and analysis based on current and evolving standards (IEEE, NERC, etc.). Provide design support to field personnel; develop and maintain sufficient level of expertise in use of CAD software for efficient production of engineering work.

Primary

Functions
  • Ensure accomplishment of projects through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities.
  • Generate plans and drawings for projects associated with protective relaying and retrofits.
  • Perform fault studies, relay setting calculations and relay loadability studies; ensure NERC requirements are met.
  • Review calculations and relay settings performed by consultants.
  • Create requisitions, track materials used in relay projects, and approve invoices associated with engineering work.
  • Coordinate capital projects associated with protective relaying and control devices.
  • Work with system protection supervisor to track workflow and resources.
  • Perform line‑testing and provide feedback and recommendations regarding system protection operations and maintenance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Technical Requirements
  • This work requires an understanding of power systems, transformers, protective relaying, and electrical engineering principles. Expected to develop or possess expertise in protective relay settings calculations and analysis based on current and evolving standards (IEEE, NERC, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Interpretation of relay documents and Protection & Control design drawings.
    • Analysis and reporting of fault analysis and relay actions.
    • Experience with power system modeling and relay coordination studies using Aspen One‑Liner software.
    • Familiarity with Aspen Relay Database, SEL‑5030 AcSELerator, Ener Vista UR.
    • Software applications (AutoCAD, Setting, ASPEN, fault analysis software).
    • NERC Reliability standards.
    • IEEE standards.
