You in This Role
As an FPV Drone Systems Engineer at Unusual Machines, you will be responsible for building, configuring, tuning, and supporting FPV drones for enterprise customers. You'll work hands‑on with flight controllers, receivers, ESCs, video systems, and airframes to deliver reliable, high‑performance drone configurations tailored to customer needs.
This role sits at the intersection of FPV flight performance, system integration, and customer requirements. You'll immediately contribute to active customer projects, then continue refining standardized configurations and processes that scale across enterprise and manufacturer partnerships. This is a highly practical, impact‑driven role for someone who thrives in fast‑moving environments and enjoys solving complex FPV challenges.
A Day in the Life- PID and filter tuning for FPV drones
- Building, configuring, and validating FPV drone systems
- Diagnosing receiver, control, and video issues—often remotely
- Configuring drones using Beta flight and related flight control software
- Organizing project files, configurations, and documentation
- Collaborating with cross‑functional teams to meet tight project deadlines
- Communicating technical guidance to users with varying levels of FPV experience
- Build, configure, and tune FPV drones for enterprise customer applications
- Perform PID tuning, filter tuning, and flight performance optimization
- Configure and troubleshoot flight controllers using Beta flight
- Diagnose and resolve receiver, radio, and FPV video system issues
- Develop standardized drone configurations aligned with customer needs
- Support project planning, documentation, and delivery tracking
- Work with manufacturers to communicate customer requirements and technical feedback
- Travel domestically for training programs and on‑site support as needed
- Strong FPV drone experience using Mode 2 controls
- Advanced working knowledge of Beta flight
- Deep understanding of FPV drone components and system integration
- Hands‑on experience with PID and filter tuning
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose issues without always having physical access to the drone
- Comfort working in a fast‑paced environment with tight deadlines
- Experience with INAV, PX4, or Ardu Pilot / Mission Planner
- Enterprise, defense, or commercial drone experience
- Experience supporting or training less‑experienced operators
- Direct impact on enterprise and customer‑facing FPV drone solutions
- Hands‑on ownership of drone configurations used in real‑world applications
- Close collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, and customer‑facing teams
- Exposure to manufacturer partnerships and product direction discussions
