We are seeking a collaborative Transportation Electrical Engineer to design, develop, and maintain electrical systems that support modern transportation infrastructure. This role focuses on intelligent transportation systems (ITS), traffic signals, lighting, EV charging infrastructure, and other emerging technologies. The ideal candidate combines strong electrical engineering expertise with an understanding of transportation systems to enhance safety, efficiency, and sustainability across roads, bridges, tunnels, and public transit networks.
The Transportation Electrical Engineer will lead and support projects from concept through completion, utilizing advanced design and analysis software, ensuring compliance with applicable standards, and integrating new technologies—such as smart sensors and connected mobility systems—to support the future of transportation.
This position can be located in any Jacobs office in Florida.

- Design, develop, and maintain electrical systems for ITS, traffic signals, lighting, EV charging infrastructure, and related technologies.
- Integrate new technologies such as smart sensors and connected mobility systems to support safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation networks.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to deliver transportation projects across roads, bridges, tunnels, and public transit networks.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Florida or the ability to obtain licensure within six (6) months.
- 4+ years of progressive experience in electrical engineering, preferably supporting transportation, ITS, or signal systems projects.
- Proficiency with electrical analysis tools, CADD platforms, data analytics, and a solid understanding of electrical/electronic systems for ITS and traffic signal infrastructure.
- Demonstrated experience designing electrical systems for traffic signals, LED roadway/area lighting, smart signage, and power distribution networks.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for site assessments (up to 30% within the Southeast region).
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related advanced technical discipline.
- Experience with electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, including system planning, power distribution considerations, and integration with transportation networks.
- Prior design experience with state Departments of Transportation, regional planning organizations, or transit agencies, demonstrating familiarity with public-sector standards, procedures, and permitting processes.
