Job Description
Dewberry's Orlando, FL office is looking for a Mechanical or Electrical Engineer-Commissioning Agent to join our commissioning department as a Deputy Department Manager
. Over the past three years, our Commissioning Team’s backlog has grown by 10X, accelerating demand for our engineering and commissioning expertise. Our Commissioning Team specializes in a wide variety of markets and geographies such as Education, Healthcare, Industrial, and Federal projects across the Eastern United States—including Louisiana, Oklahoma, Illinois, New York City, Virginia, Florida, and Alabama. We pride ourselves on strong, mutually beneficial client relationships and on improving the quality of building designs and construction.

In this pivotal doer‑seller, entrepreneurial role, you will develop, lead, and manage a Commissioning team, execute Commissioning services projects, provide technical and process management support, and drive business development. You will enjoy substantial autonomy backed by significant horsepower, with a variety of daily tasks that keep you inspired and engaged.
Your skills will be instrumental in inspecting building systems, creating comprehensive testing and closeout documents, and utilizing cutting‑edge software to streamline processes and enhance efficiency. This role reports directly to the Commissioning Department Manager and involves strategic decisions to continue the growth of Dewberry’s Commissioning Team.
Hybrid work available for this position based on experience.
Responsibilities- Doer‑seller:
Find the work and execute it. - Actively support and coordinate with the entire commissioning team to execute projects and uphold our commitments.
- HVAC sequence of operation knowledge and capable of performing design review of sequence of operation and creating mechanical system testing procedures and testing same in the field.
- Must have knowledge of manipulating, adjusting, set‑up, and testing HVAC controls systems such as JCI, Trane, Automated Logic, Siemens, etc.; knowledge in multiple control systems is a plus.
- Must have complete working knowledge of HVAC chilled water and DX systems, including design, operation and testing of chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers, AHU, RTU, ERU, VAVs, exhaust, FCU, etc.
- Review air and water test‑and‑balance process, review a TAB report and identify issues.
- Visit client facilities and gather necessary data to test systems.
- Create system installation and testing documents.
- Be familiar with OSHA safety requirements and able to identify deficiencies.
- Be familiar with building codes and able to make intuitive decisions related to them.
- Read and understand building plans and specifications.
- Work safely around electrical systems up to 600 volts.
- Effectively communicate with all clients, construction trades, and design professionals.
- Have a high aptitude for abstract reasoning, assertiveness, thoroughness, and be very detail oriented.
- Work flexible hours and work in hot or cold environments.
- Climb stairs, ladders, and lift trucks; do moderate lifting; proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
- Travel approximately 50% of the time.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering.
- Accomplished engineer with 10+ years of experience.
- Commissioning experience.
- Commissioning process certification preferred or ability to acquire within first 6 months.
- Business development experience a plus.
- Professional Engineering License a plus or ability to acquire.
- Self‑motivated with highly developed verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
