Orange County Building Safety Division is currently seeking highly qualified candidates to fill multiple vacancies of "Mechanical Inspector I or II". This position conducts inspections and tests in the assigned specialty area to enforce compliance with the County adopted codes, and applicable laws, rules and regulations. Work is performed with considerable independence under the general direction of the assigned supervisor. Performance is reviewed through observations, conferences, reports and results achieved.
Job DescriptionThis position inspects construction for compliance with adopted mechanical codes, plans & specifications of the State of Florida Energy, Mechanical, NFPA, ASHRAE and Gas Codes when systems are to be enlarged, altered, repaired, moved, demolished, or installed. This includes but is not limited to the following: ducts used for exhaust, air conditioning, smoke evacuation, ventilation, chillers, air handler units, boilers, incinerators, grease hoods, heat hoods, walk-in coolers, walk-in freezers, ice machines, mechanical fire penetrations and paint booths.
This also includes piping for steam, hot water, chiller water, condenser water, fuel, gas and refrigeration piping, and gas appliances which includes gas venting, combustion air, insulation for ducts, and piping. Keeps a record of such inspections and violations.
- Conducts inspections for compliance with adopted codes, ordinances and state statutes.
- Reads and interprets construction plans and blueprints. Informs public of building code changes and explains code to contractors, architects, engineers and homeowners.
- Maintains accurate records of inspection activities and violations.
- Utilizes Building Division mobile data computer system. Assist with emergency support functions in the event of a declared emergency and/or any other emergency duties assigned.
- Performs other related work as assigned.
High School Graduate or equivalent and 4 years of experience in the construction industry. An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in related field may substitute for up to 3 years of experience on a one for one basis with a minimum of 1 year of construction experience.
Experience must be verified, in the form of an affidavit, by a licensed contractor, fire marshal, architect, engineer, or building official during first week of employment.
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license and provide own transportation if necessary.
Mechanical Inspector I - Additional Mandatory RequirementA Mechanical Inspector candidate must qualify for a provisional Inspector license in the applicable trade pursuant to Florida Statue chapter 468, Part XII. Employee(s) must obtain a provisional Inspector license within 120 days from date of hire and a standard inspectors license within two years from the date of receiving a provisional license and shall maintain said license throughout employment as an Inspector.
Note:
Employees that are unable to obtain the required license(s) within the established timeframe will be required to forfeit their position as an Orange County Mechanical Inspector.
High school graduate or equivalent and 5 years of experience in the construction industry. An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for up to 4 years of experience on a one for one basis with a minimum of 1 year of construction experience.
