GENERAL SUMMARYThe Designer II supports the Electrical Engineering team by producing high‑quality documents under the direction of a Managing Director or Director. This role applies established engineering principles and design practices to a variety of building types and project scales. The Designer II works collaboratively with internal project teams to deliver coordinated, accurate, and timely electrical design solutions.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThis position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIESTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. General duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Electrical Design & Engineering
- Plan and design electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low‑voltage systems for a variety of building types.
- Develop one‑line diagrams, panel schedules, and short‑circuit calculations.
- Prepare lighting layouts and perform photometric calculations.
- Lay out fire alarm devices and demonstrate an understanding of low‑voltage systems and components.
- Coordinate electrical design with vendor‑supplied and owner‑furnished equipment.
- Prepare equipment layouts, general arrangements, and system details.
- Project Execution & Documentation
- Assist in completing design elements for projects, systems, or components with clearly defined objectives using conventional engineering practices.
- Prepare complete project documentation, including drawings, specifications, due diligence reports, and supporting calculations.
- Correct, update, and revise drawings throughout project phases.
- Ensure compliance with company technical standards, quality control procedures, and applicable codes.
- Review shop drawings, record changes, and coordinate responses with suppliers, contractors, and client representatives.
- Assist the Project Manager in coordinating electrical designs with other disciplines.
- Participate in internal and external project meetings as required.
- Interact professionally with clients, authorities having jurisdiction, contractors, and consultants.
- Work cooperatively with employees at all levels to support project and firm‑wide goals.
- Project Management Support
- Plan and coordinate detailed aspects of assigned engineering work.
- Manage multiple moderate‑size projects or portions of large projects while meeting schedule and budget expectations.
- Assist with engineering studies, design analyses, cost estimates, budgets, and project schedules.
- Perform on‑site inspections and field observations as required.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong building systems design and technical presentation skills.
- Proficiency or working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- Familiarity with electrical engineering software such as SKM, AGI, Visual, or equivalent.
- General understanding of the project development process, including construction documentation and coordination for retail and commercial buildings.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
- Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and conscientious, with strong time‑management skills.
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Minimum of 2–4 years of relevant electrical engineering or electrical design experience in a consulting or A/E firm environment.
