The Assistant Director of Engineering will act as a senior leader responsible for the strategic direction, operational excellence, and sustainable stewardship of the hotel’s physical assets. In alignment with the Hotel’s mission of conscious luxury, this role ensures the property is maintained to the highest standards of safety, functionality, sustainability, and guest comfort—supporting a wellness-focused experience for guests and team members alike.

The Director of Engineering leads and inspires the Engineering team, drives preventative maintenance and energy efficiency initiatives, and partners closely with hotel leadership to protect long‑term asset value while enhancing operational and financial performance.

• Lead, mentor, and develop the Engineering team, fostering a culture rooted in accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Champion preventative maintenance programs that support guest comfort, indoor environmental quality, and long‑term asset preservation.
• Oversee all building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, water conservation, and energy management systems.
• Serve as a steward of Hotel’s sustainability philosophy, leading initiatives focused on energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction, and environmentally responsible practices.
• Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal safety, health, and environmental regulations.
• Collaborate with the General Manager and Executive Committee to align Engineering strategies with operational goals, wellness standards, and guest experience expectations.
• Manage departmental budgets, forecasts, capital expenditures, and cost controls with a focus on responsible resource management.
• Oversee capital projects, renovations, and vendor partnerships, ensuring quality execution and adherence to sustainability standards.
• Effectively prioritize and respond to operational demands in a fast‑paced, 24‑hour luxury hotel environment.
• Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, ensuring the Engineering team reflects the natural, refined, and purpose‑driven culture of the Hotel brand.

• Post‑secondary diploma or degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
• Minimum of four (4) years of experience in a comparable Engineering leadership role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong technical knowledge of hotel Engineering systems with an emphasis on sustainable operations and asset longevity.
• Demonstrated leadership and strategic planning skills with proven success in optimizing guest satisfaction, team member engagement, and financial performance.
• Experience leading in a fast‑paced environment with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
• Solid understanding of Engineering financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and capital planning.
• Technically proficient with Engineering operating systems, budgeting tools, and spreadsheets.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and a proactive, solution‑oriented mindset.
• Flexibility to meet the operational demands of a 24‑hour hotel environment.
• Fluency in a second language in addition to English.
• Experience with energy management systems, sustainability reporting, or green building initiatives (LEED, Energy Star, or similar).
