Job Overview
Leidos is seeking a Safety, Health, and Environmental Engineer for NASA operations. The role focuses on ensuring safe, compliant workplaces across mission essential activities. You will partner with engineering and operations teams, provide expert oversight of safety, occupational health, environmental compliance, and facilitate launch processing.
Primary Responsibilities- Lead day‑to‑day safety oversight, including onsite observations, hazard identification, and launch processing support.
- Conduct incident and injury investigations; drive corrective actions.
- Perform annual and quarterly facility safety inspections; maintain OSHA 300 logs.
- Serve as RF and Laser Radiation Safety Officer and Fall Protection Competent Person.
- Coordinate industrial hygiene assessments: heat stress monitoring, interior air quality, asbestos, noise surveys.
- Conduct ergonomic assessments in office and industrial settings.
- Review work orders and maintenance requests to identify safety risks.
- Oversee high‑level environmental compliance, reporting, and plan maintenance.
- Support hazardous waste, spill reporting, waste minimization.
- Participate in NASA safety groups, environmental partnering teams, audits.
- Provide safety support to verification & validation activities on trackers & communication systems.
On‑site office at Kennedy Space Center, FL. Non‑traditional schedule:
Wednesday to Sunday.
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety & Health, or related field and 2+ years of experience; or Master’s with less than 2 years.
- Experience in safety, health, or environmental compliance programs in engineering or aerospace or government environment.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace risk assessment practices.
- Familiarity with environmental compliance principles: hazardous waste, spill reporting, sustainability.
- Strong inspection, investigation, and assessment skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, ability to deliver safety findings and briefings.
- Team collaboration skills in fast‑paced, safety‑critical environment.
- U.S. citizenship required for NASA access.
- Ability to obtain Public Trust Security clearance.
- OSHA 30/40 hour certification.
The program budget salary could range from high $80,000 to low $105,000, based on experience and other factors.
