CDM Smith is seeking a Civil Engineer 1 to join our Geotechnical Engineering Team in Orlando. This is an AutoCAD based role. Under direct supervision, the engineer creates basic complexity engineering designs involving site layout development, site grading and drainage, hydraulics and hydrology calculations, water distribution systems, collection systems, storage tanks and impoundments, foundation designs, stormwater infrastructure and treatment, and occasionally single‑story structures.

The designer also reviews draft designs for compliance with federal, state and local regulations, ensures that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs, performs site reviews and studies as needed, updates design requirements, and contributes to the firm’s TKM by developing white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs, studies, etc. The engineer may also submit technical papers and designs for publishing to technical journals, and may create or work with a team to produce posters or other presentation material for conferences.

• Create engineering designs for site layout, grading and drainage, hydraulics, hydrology, water distribution, collection systems, storage tanks, impoundments, foundations, stormwater infrastructure, treatment, and single‑story structures.
• Review draft designs for regulatory compliance and firm policy adherence.
• Perform site reviews and studies to align designs with location specifications.
• Update design requirements as necessary.
• Develop white papers, technical documentation, and technical papers for publication.
• Assist with poster or conference presentation creations.
• May work with a team for conference presentation material.

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 0 years of related experience (travel may be required).
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required; frequency contingent on duties.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

• Experience and interest in AutoCAD.

• Basic knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software.
• Basic knowledge of engineering principles of design.
• Knowledge of Microsoft business software (Excel, Word, etc.).
• Good verbal and written communication skills.

Successful candidate will be required to work in office and field locations as needed.
