Job Overview
You will be the Thermal Analysis Mechanical Engineer for the Mechanical Analysis team within Lockheed Martin Missiles & Fire Control (MFC). Our team pioneers thermal and structural analysis solutions that enable precision engagement systems for the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, NASA, allied forces, and civilian nuclear power customers.
Responsibilities- Lead the creation and validation of thermal models for mechanical, structural, optical, and electronic assemblies.
- Work with designers, suppliers, and test engineers to guarantee that every component meets rigorous performance, reliability, and safety specifications.
- Research and develop viable thermal and structural solutions for complex systems and components.
- Build, calibrate, and correlate analytical models to support product development decisions.
- Plan and execute performance, structural, and thermal tests; capture and interpret measurement data.
- Document and report thermal and structural performance results for internal and external stakeholders.
- Assess design concepts against specification limits, reliability targets, and cost constraints.
- Collaborate with material and parts suppliers—including plastics, composites, metals, ceramics, additive manufactured parts, fans, blowers, heat sinks, and thermal interface materials—to source optimal solutions.
- Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in Thermal Engineering or Thermal Analysis with knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics.
- Experience with CFD solvers, preferably FloEFD 2021.3 or higher, or comparable CFD pre/postprocessors.
- Experience with FEM solvers, preferably Siemens Sim Center 3D 2020 Thermal or higher, or comparable FEM pre/postprocessors.
- Proficiency in active thermal control hydraulics and refrigeration in the aerospace sector.
- Demonstrated thermal test planning and execution skills.
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills for generating test plans, reports, documentation, and proposals.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with FORTRAN‑style input decks or other comparable computer languages.
- Experience with ablative thermal protection systems.
