Position: Materials and Processes Engineer Sr.

Job Description

Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Controls is seeking a full‑time Materials and Processes Engineer to support programs in Orlando, FL. In this role you will develop and optimize materials for use in structures, systems, and subsystems on major production programs, driving innovation in the aerospace industry.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Developing and optimizing materials and surface treatment solutions for engineering applications.
  • Performing failure analyses, life‑prediction modeling, and material property development to support reliability goals.
  • Authoring clear technical documentation and contributing data packages for design reviews and customer deliverables.
  • Collaborating with cross‑functional teams—including product development, analysis groups, and production—to translate requirements into manufacturable solutions.
  • Supporting test planning, execution, and results interpretation to validate material performance.
  • Mentoring junior engineers and sharing best practices across the organization.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in a related discipline (preferably in Material Science or Materials Engineering), or equivalent experience/combined education.
  • Familiarity and a strong background in material manufacturing processes and material testing processes and procedures.
  • Ability to travel and willingness to work off‑site as needed for assignments.
Desired Skills
  • Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Engineering/Science.
  • Experience with materials and processes associated with electronics assemblies and components.
  • Experience working with full assemblies as well as subassemblies, down to component level.
  • Experience supporting failure review boards and working towards corrective action.
  • Familiarity with programs at MFC or experience working with U.S. Dept. of Defense customers.
  • Familiarity with evaluating and developing material specifications.
  • Familiarity with reading and interpreting blueprints, machine drawings, 2‑D drawings, CAD drawings, and material callouts and/or material processing notes.

This position requires U.S. citizenship and a Final Secret government security clearance.
